It Is Well

A soulful and non-traditional show, It Is Well utilizes the traditional hymn It Is Well With My Soul. Written during a time of healing, this show conveys the struggle we all go through in our time on this planet. The hymn is displayed in the opening moments, and then darkened in minor mode. Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah is also presented in a minor mode at first, until the opening material comes back, with the students singing the hymn (optional, of course - we have sound samples or instrumental arrangements ready as an option). Somewhat surprisingly, the greatest moment of healing comes from Ke$ha’s Praying, an impactful and beautiful display of strength. Hallelujah returns in the original key, followed by It Is Well realised in full band scoring. This show works, regardless of religious affiliation; however, programs that strictly avoid any religious references may want to avoid this one, as it is permeated with source material that is related or adjacent to religious or spiritual concepts.
